The language teacher training programme
The language teacher training programme is designed by the University of Portsmouth (CARILSE – Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in Language Sciences and Education) and is licensed to Accademia Lingua Italiana Assisi (ALIA) and is delivered to delegates by ALIA’s teaching staff. The main aim of this language teacher training programme (48 hours over 7 days) is to provide both trainees and more experienced language teachers with a better understanding of the interface between theory, research and practice in second language learning and teaching.
In the training an analysis of how the principles derived from theory and research can be applied to day-to-day language teaching issues is provided. The idea is to discuss and examine, among participant, an effective and evidence-based language teaching pedagogy.
The Modules
The training consists of four modules:
1) Second language acquisition
2) The role of input and interaction
3) The nature of language and the role of grammar instruction
4) The nature of communication and the role of tasks
Each module provides a better understanding of how theoretical views and empirical research in second language acquisition might have an impact pedagogical implications in the way a language should be taught in the classroom. The resource pack, course books, and access to moodle are provided at the beginning of the course.
Certification
The language teacher training programme will enable the Delegates to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CDP).
Upon completion of the language teacher training programme the delegates will be issued with a University of Portsmouth certificate of attendance and completion.
